BDI Holds Kickoff for Thrive’22 Campaign

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (November 29, 2017) – Burke Development, Inc. held a kickoff event on November 28 at the Morganton Community House for its Thrive’22 Campaign. BDI staff and campaign leaders were happy to announce they have already raised nearly 80 percent of the campaign goal of $1 million dollars. The five-year, private sector campaign will support BDI’s program of work and goal to grow the economy and create a bright economic future for Burke County. Thrive’22 is co-led by Campaign Chairs Kathy Bailey, CEO of Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge, and Chris Rice, President of Kellex Seating. “BDI’s Thrive’22 campaign will support programs that are crucial to current and potential new employers,” said Kathy Bailey. “In this competitive environment for growth, our county and the Foothills Region will succeed if we work together, as friends and neighbors, in this public/private collaboration.” Thirty-seven companies and individuals have contributed to the campaign for a total of $782,500. The increase in BDI’s budget, which is primarily funded by public sector, will support the creation of over 1,520 direct and indirect new jobs and over $90M in new capital investment. It will allow for increased efforts for business retention and expansion, workforce development, business development and marketing, product development and investor relations and development. “My thanks to everyone who attended the event and the partners who have committed funds at this point in time,” said BDI President and CEO Alan Wood. “We look forward to increasing the number and working with other people and businesses in the community to reach our goal.” Alan Wood has served as President and CEO of BDI since March of 2015 and since that time the organization has announced 11 new or expanded industries for a total of 699 new jobs and over $82M in new capital investment.
