Burke Development, Inc. Welcomes New Office Manager

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (April 4, 2018) – Alan Wood, President and CEO of Burke Development, Inc. announces the hiring of Peggy Byrd as Office Manager. Byrd brings eight years of experience in various roles related to economic development. She previously served as the Business Services Rep for the Western Piedmont Workforce Development Board and as Program Coordinator for Western Piedmont Community College. Byrd started at BDI March 5, 2018. In addition to managing the office she handles finances, board management and communications. She worked most previously at Kleen Tech in Hildebran as the Executive Assistant. She previously worked at Burke Development from 2013 to 2015 as the RENEW Grant Manager. “We’re thrilled to have Peggy join our team,” said Alan Wood, President and CEO. “She brings a great energy to our office and she is the perfect fit to help round out our staff as roles have shifted for others. Hope Hopkins, who previously handled many of the office duties, has moved into a new role as the Director of Business Retention and Expansion. She handles all existing industry and also assists Wood in recruitment efforts. Sara Chester, who previously handled communications duties, is now spending a majority of her time on Work in Burke, an initiative to educate students and parents about the careers available in Burke County. Byrd began her career with Phillip Morris Tobacco and worked for 20 years in sales and counseling before serving at the Western Piedmont Council of Governments for five years. “It’s an honor to be back at Burke Development,” said Byrd. “The organization does a lot of work that is very important and beneficial to the community and I’m very excited to be a part of that.” Byrd lives in Hickory with her husband Paul Byrd and her dog Max.
