BDI Defining Director Criteria

The BDI Board of Directors is taking a participatory, community approach to defining the type of candidate who will be selected as the new Executive Director of the organization. Over the past two weeks each board member was asked to fill out a needs assessment to provide feedback on requirements and necessary skill sets for the role. Logan Development Group – the firm chosen to lead the national search – is also conducting an organizational analysis to evaluate the current by-laws, goals and structure of BDI, as well as the current budget and funding arrangements. Other organizations of similar scope will be researched and then utilized as benchmarks for potential improvements. “We have not established a hard deadline for when we plan on having a new Director in place,” said BDI Chairman and Burke County Manager Bryan Steen. “As a board we feel it is important to conduct the organizational analysis first, and then utilize facts and data gathered during that process to inform our Director search.” Logan Development Group CEO Daniel Logan is visiting Burke County this week to interview mayors, city/town, managers, BDI Board members and other community stakeholders to gain consensus on what type of candidate should be sought for the Director position. Logan will also utilize the interviews to assess the desired future goals and objectives of the organization. “The consultant we hired four years ago was very successful and we were very pleased with his recommendations to us,” said Morganton Mayor Mel Cohen. “This year, four years later, we are looking at some bylaw changes and also hiring a new executive director. Daniel Logan’s past history of working in this community will prove to be successful again for us.” “BDI has made good progress in the last four years, but we must constantly evaluate and make changes for continued economic development success.” added Mike Watts, Chairman of the Committee of 100, an organization that contributes private funds to BDI. “Logan Development Group has a pulse on the ever changing marketplace and will help define an organizational structure to position us for opportunity as well as recruit a leader to execute the plan.” Read this article from the Morganton News Herald for more information.
