Burke Development, Inc. Board Selects New Officers John Branstrom Elected as Chairman

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (July 27, 2012) – New officers have been selected for the Board of Directors for Burke Development, Inc. (BDI) and John Branstrom will lead the Board as the new Chairman. The officers were nominated and voted in at a recent meeting. Bryan Steen will serve as Vice Chairman and Rod Harrelson has taken the position of Secretary/Treasurer. “This is a great group to lead our board in the coming years,” said BDI President Scott Darnell. “They want to see the community grow and prosper. Mike Watts did a great job serving as our last Chairman and I know John will bring a lot of good insight and perspective to the role.” Branstrom, who will serve a two year term as Chairman, started in the insurance and investment business in 1973. He has lived in Burke County for over 50 years and has been heavily involved in the community serving at one time as Chairman of the Community Foundation of Burke County and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves on the Blue Ridge HealthCare Board. “I look forward to serving as Chairman,” said Branstrom, who has been involved in Burke’s economic development efforts for over 20 years. “We need jobs for our citizens across a broad spectrum. We want current industries to prosper and expand. We also want diversified companies to locate here.” “More emphasis is now being placed on workforce development and this is key because the skill sets needed for many of the most attractive jobs in the future are different than they were just a few years ago,” added Branstrom. “The county, the various municipalities and the private Committee of 100 are all working together to help make Burke County an even better place to live.” BDI Board members who wished to remain on the Executive Board, which is comprised of an even number of members from the public and private sectors, were reappointed.
