German Company Will Bring 102 New Jobs to Morganton

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (December 6, 2017) – VEKA, a global leader in the vinyl extrusion industry, will locate a new facility in Burke County. Over the next four years the company will create 102 jobs and invest $18M. This is the fourth facility in the United States for the family-owned, German company. “North Carolina was a perfect location choice for us,” said Joe Peilert, VEKA’s North American President. “The City of Morganton has welcomed us with open arms, we are excited to join this great community as a new neighbor.” VEKA, Inc. is one of North America’s most respected suppliers of vinyl window and door profiles. They will receive a $500,000 performance-based grant from the One N.C. Fund, which provides financial assistance to local governments to help attract economic investment and to create jobs. Burke County and the City of Morganton have approved local incentives matching 50% of the new taxable investment for seven years. “We’re happy to support this project,” said Chairman of the Burke County Board of Commissioners Jeff Brittain. “This is the eleventh foreign flagged company in the county and it speaks volumes about our workforce and infrastructure that we continue to see international companies, that consider locations all across the U.S., select Burke County for a new operation.” “We’re thrilled to see this announcement of jobs and new investment,” said Morganton Mayor Ronnie Thompson. “For the City it is also a win to get a company back in that facility that will offset the loss of Caterpillar in terms of utility usage.” Caterpillar announced they would close their 160,000-square foot facility on Ceramic Tile Drive in April 2016. Since then the company has wound down its operations and VEKA, Inc. has plans to occupy the facility and begin operations in early 2018. “I’m excited to have a quality company reusing this now vacant structure,” said Alan Wood, President and CEO of Burke Development, Inc. “This addition will assist our efforts to grow and diversify our manufacturing base.” The North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, Burke County, the City of Morganton, and the Western Piedmont Council of Governments assisted with the project.
