Murphy’s Farm Apartments set to open in mid-2022

Greenville, SC and Morganton, NC (May 14, 2021) – Homes Urban Development and its investment partner, Centerlane Capital, are excited to announce the groundbreaking of their new multifamily apartment community, Murphy’s Farm Apartments. The groundbreaking will take place on Friday, May 14 from 11:00 a.m. to noon at 160 Patrick Murphy Drive in Morganton, North Carolina.
This new development is the culmination of a multi-faceted process that included partners from not only the Morganton area but across the region and state. Those partners include but are not limited to: Centerlane Capital, the City of Morganton, Burke County, Western Piedmont Community College, Burke Development Inc., Hometown Strong, Department of Health and Human Services, Summit Contracting Group, V. Stewart McKee General Contractors, and OMNI Partners.
Homes Urban has offices in Greenville and Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Founder Russ Davis said “this project was one of many twists and turns. Our company has a history of developing challenging locations and this site certainly fell in that category. But at the end of the day, we think the results will be well worth all our efforts.”
The project is located off Enola Road near Broughton Hospital, the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, and Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC). It includes property that was once a dairy farm as well as equestrian stables. The over 27 acres of land were purchased from the community college and the Department of Health and Human Services and is located in one of two Burke County Opportunity Zones.
“WPCC is excited to see the development at Murphy’s Farm,” said Dr. Joel Welch, president of WPCC. “It will provide much needed housing for our community and serves as a great example of public/private partnership.”
Construction financing is provided by Synovus Bank, and Blue Ridge Companies has been selected to manage the property. Summit Contracting Group of Jacksonville, Fla., will construct the 240-unit apartment project, which was designed by Group 4 Design and Seamon Whiteside.
“We are very pleased that Homes Urban chose to create a new development in Burke County,” said Jeff Brittain, chair of the Burke County Board of Commissioners. “This is an important step in helping ease the housing shortage for the area. We feel this new community will have wide appeal to our current residents and those looking to make our county their new home.”
Murphy’s Farm will include one and two-bedroom apartment homes, with 9-foot ceilings, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and washers and dryers in each home. An early 1900’s era barn will be fully renovated to include the leasing office, clubhouse, fitness facility and yoga center. NVERSE, a Morganton architecture firm, designed the facility. The community will be the first new market-rate development built in Morganton in more than 15 years.
“The Homes Urban development at Murphy’s Farm is a welcome addition to the City of Morganton,” said Morganton Mayor Ronnie Thompson. “Seeing new development on this site, while preserving much of the character of the location, is a significant step in the re-development of the greater Broughton Campus.”
The new residences are expected to be available for occupancy in mid-2022.
