Leviton Awarded $500,000 Building Reuse Grant for Expansion
BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (May 2, 2013) – Leviton was awarded a $500,000 Building Reuse and Restoration Grant from the NC Rural Center to aid in an expansion at their current facility in Morganton. The company has committed to creating 152 new jobs as part of the expansion, which was announced in January. Leviton provides a comprehensive range of solutions, from switches and receptacles, to daylight harvesting controls, networking systems, and equipment for charging electric vehicles. With a portfolio of more than 25,000 products, Leviton is a leader in the ever changing and evolving industry. Mark Baydarian, Leviton’s Chief Financial Officer, said of the expansion, “Leviton started manufacturing in North Carolina in the 1960s, and since that time we have found the region to be an excellent environment to manufacture products with loyal, dedicated and productive employees.” Leviton employs more than 500 people in North Carolina. The decision to expand in Burke County illustrates the company’s continued investment in the state and its people. “I’m happy to see Leviton continuing their investment in Morganton,” said Morganton Mayor Mel Cohen. “They have been a terrific corporate citizen for our City and an important part of our community for five decades.” “We are very fortunate to have had Leviton in Burke County for decades,” said Burke County Board of Commissioners Chairman Maynard Taylor. “We are delighted for the addition of 152 employees at Leviton, which is one of our largest employers.
