Mission Transition Job Fair Set for June 26

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (June 17, 2013) – The Fourth Annual Mission Transition Burke County Job Fair will be held Thursday, June 26, from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Conference Center at the Foothills Higher Education Center. Over 70 employers and community organizations will be in attendance to meet candidates for employment.   The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required but jobseekers are encouraged to arrive early as event organizers expect a large turnout.   Joy Boyd, a Burke resident who was commuting to Hickory for work, attended last year’s job fair and was hired as a Customer Service Manager at Wal-Mart. She was quickly promoted and now serves as Training Coordinator. Boyd helps with the hiring process and will be at this year’s Fair seeking candidates for employment.   “I love hiring and training people,” said Boyd. “It’s awesome, I love it! I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time. It is a great atmosphere and I love that I get to continue to learn.”   Boyd and other Walmart representatives will look for candidates that can work third shift. They will be hiring for various open positions including in the deli.   “The job fair really helped me out. If it can help me then it can help anybody,” said Boyd. “There are a lot of good companies there. I really appreciate the effort that goes into the job fair.” This year’s event is sponsored by The News Herald, a part of BH Media Group; the Burke County Chamber of Commerce; the Western Piedmont Council of Governments; Leviton; McDonald’s; Aaron’s; Olive Hill Community Economic Development Center; Silver Quarter Solutions; Adecco; and Burke Development, Inc.
